Abstract
Today, 18.9% of Brazilians are obese and 53.8% are overweighed, so that the weight loss resources are increasingly used. The present research aimed to analyze the efficacy of supplementation with Garcinia cambogia, through hydroxycitric acid, for weight loss. This article was an exploratory systematic review, in content analysis with qualitative nature. The collected data were analyzed from an integrative review. It turns out that the mechanisms of action of hydroxycitric acid in slimming include reduction in biosynthesis of fatty acids and lipogenesis, increases the release of serotonin in the brain causing sensation of satiety and inhibition of alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase bowel, reducing the metabolism of carbohydrates. It is important to note that reports of cases of toxicity are still being discussed.
